xterm installs suid root?

i recently installed slackware, and noticed that xterm is suid root?

An `xterm' has to perform several operations that require root privileges on start-up. I think they relate to utmp and (depending on your setup) possibly also the allocation of a pty - though, I am not sure. I have seen several solutions to this issue, usually involving patching `xterm' to use an external daemon for these parts of the code. Or you can take my approach, and not use X.

i just removed the SUID bit and it works fine
