WinSCP > Linux Firewall > Windows OpenSSH
Hi all,
I have recently moved into a job where they use Suse as a Firewall and for Mail transfers - Hurrah! Now I can learn about Linux in work time
The question I have is, is it possible to do the following:
Windows PC (@work): Using WinSCP2
to
Windows PC (@home): Running OpenSSH
via
SUSE Linux (@work): Firewall (port 22 is open)
I have sat at the Linux Server and used ssh to log into the Windows PC @home, but I wanted to use WinSCP2 from my work PC (M$ W2K) to do file transfers.
Is this possible.
Many thanks in advance.
Andy
PS. I am also going to attempt at some point to use VNC through SSH to my home PC as well :S , but thats a separate issue which I will look into later.

As long as you are working from inside the firewall, it should work. I've done it on Linux with the standard scp, anyway.
The easiest is...
scp bob@home-ip-or-dns_name:file_name ./
It works out to "secure copy as bob on the remote computer the file named to the current directory." You can add named directories on both sides, if you need. You can also set the user and computer to be copied to it it's different.
If you need to copy FROM a computer behind a firewall, it gets trickier. A computer behind a firewall isn't visible to the internet, so you need to either ssh into the firewall and copy the file from the protected computer to the firewall, or forward the incoming port on the firewall to the protected computer.

Apologies to the thread owner, kinda off topic, but: you should *not* download software you want|need to rely on from P2P networks, unless you can make onehundred percent sure the package isn't modified. If you need a SSH daemon for Wintendo, grab it from Cygwin or sshwindows.sourceforge.net (formerly at lexa.mckenna.edu). I run the McKenna one on W2K and XP boxen w/o problem.
