Question why my Latest ACLs are not working in Ubuntu 14.04 ?

Hi All,

I have a Virtual Box with Ubuntu 14.04 and when I run the command:
Quote:
/bin/chmod A- dir1
Chmod: invalid mode 'A'
try --help

my setfacl and getfacl commands are working. But, to handle with interoperability, I have to use chmod ACL commands only. So, just trying to setup my own environment in my PC instead of connecting to the office servers everytime.

will the chmod ACLs work with Ubuntu ?
Please help/resolve this

So did you run chmod --help and read it? Run "man chmod" and read that? You obviously have a wrong flag on the command, and the error is very clear. Try a lowercase a.

Great. Go back to your other thread about ACL's and read some of the good advice there, and follow it:

Again, read the man pages on the chmod command, since that's what you 'have' to use, and figure out what you need from them.

Well, my question was that I need to use only the chmod commands to make the ACLs work.
As mentioned in the OP. what kind of update or tool I need to install to make the chmod work.

This question is not at all related to my old post and if you are not clear about my question:

I need the latest ACLs on my Ubuntu Vbox (which need to work only with "chmod" command and not with setfacl, getfacl).
If chmod is limited to few commands then what is that I need to update/change in Ubuntu.

Again; read the documentation/man pages/use the "--help" option.

Again; read the man pages on chmod and what it is/does, and read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature. If you tried putting "ubuntu 14.04 setfacl" into Google, you'd have seen, as the very first hit:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilePermissionsACLs

...a document from Ubuntu, SPECIFICALLY COVERING 14.04 and setfacl.
