Which Linux firewall is the best for webserver?


Hello,

which Linux software firewall is the best for use on linux webserver?
mainly easy to configure and mitigate various attacks like denial of service

Fundamentally, your only choice for a Linux firewall is iptables.

That is, a lot of the other things that are described as firewalls are really attractive (if you like that kind of thing) front ends to iptables. they are GUI applications that write iptables rule sets (plus some other bits and pieces, setting up basic networking).

build a small low powered computer and run IPFire you will be happy.

its a very loaded Q with many many answers.

1st define what a "firewall" is.

is that L3 & L4 packet filtering?
or is that knowing that a DNS query on your tcp port 80 should probably be blocked, or IRC comms using udp-53 should be blocked?

what types of DoS are you wanting your endpoint fw to mitigate?

and to answer the Q directly, the "best" one is the one that addresses your requirements.

probably better to build your list of requirements and then choose the sec controls that address those requirements.
