which encryption should I use, gpg?
I never encrypted anything in Linux before.
I'd like to encrypt a directory in my system and to keep it protected except when accessing its contents a number of times a day (one to ten times per day).
Can gpg encrypt full directories in one go from the command line? Is there any way to prevent being prompted for the passphrase if I decrypt directories that I encrypted earlier?
Thank you.

Using GPG for this application will be cumbersome. It would be better to use an encrypted filesystem.

Registration is free, and if you don't trust Linux Magazine you can use Bugmenot.

A number of links above are broken but the article at linux-mag is fine. Thanks again.
