As was pointed out in an earlier post, these addresses belong to Verisign. Verisign is one of the companies that provides website security certificates. These certificates are used every time you connect to an HTTPS page. What is probably happening, assuming you are seeing a connection from your browser to these addresses, is that when you make a connection to a secure page, your browser is getting the certificate from the host and then verifying that it is a valid certificate. It will do this by making the connection to verisign and checking to make sure that the fingerprint of the certificate is valid (ie it hasn't been altered) and that it hasn't been revoked.
