what is going on in the computer

Dear all

I am using RH-9. I just want to know what is going on to the computer. I am using cable modem, my etho is external and eth1 is internal. When i see the etho connection it always blinking. just i want to know the data transfer (input and output). I am using squid with complete security. How do i find out who is accessing my computer and etc..

i hope everybody understand my problem.

please guide me

Try using tcpdump or ethereal to capture some of the traffic. That should give you a start as to what type of traffic it is. Use the netstat -pantu to see if any connections are currently established.

The reason that you see a constant flickering of your activity led is that with cable modem connections all traffic within your block or so is sent to all connected clients.
