What are my options to enable LDAP authentication for certain LDAP users?

I'm trying to lock down LDAP without having control of the LDAP server to certain users to authenticate to my host (not just anyone). I would appreciate different options for this approach.

assuming the end goal is to stop certain users logging in, I would suggest ignoring LDAP specifically and configure /etc/security/access.conf instead.
