What's the #1 AntiVirus for Linux?

Before any one says any thing I know all ready that the majority of viruses out there are designed for windows users and that any viruses, worms and/or Trojan's designed for linux are not likely to spread and only mess up my /home directory. Which is why I'm not interested in a antivirus for me.

I use P2P software to share files and the majority of people that download from me are windows users. The majority of people I download from are also windows users. When I was on Windows XP I was using Norton Internet Security 2004 and I found that a lot of files from users on certain networks where infected with viruses. Since I'm using Linux now I don't really have to worry about it.

The only reason I want an antivirus for Linux is out of common for Windows users. When I download files off of p2p networks I want to make sure they're virus free so when Windows users download from me they wont get those viruses.

Right now I'm using AntiVir from H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH. But when testing it out on the sub7 server I found that it didn't detect it. I had to submit the Trojan to them so they would update there signatures. It made me wonder what other common Trojan's (like sub7 for example) that they don't have in there signatures.

So my question to all of you is what's your opinion of the best antivirus to be used for my type of needs and that detects the most viruses? I found that most antivirus software for Linux is designed just for mail servers. What I need is a general purpose antivirus like Norton or McAfee but with the Linux equivalent.

I like the software I'm using now, the only problem is I question it's detection capability. I also noticed that it's not very good at detecting new viruses. I was able to take the sub7 server and unpack and repack it with a differant packer and bypass my antivirus. The only other antiviruses I tested it with was Norton and McAfee and they where both able to detect it as a new virus.

What you are looking for has very little demand and a high price tag.
I know of only one "Vexira Antivirus for Linux Server"

Try www.f-prot.com it is a command line scanner that you can set up to run as a cron job. It also has a online update service.

It detects the eicar test virus with ease even when buried in a zip archive.

It is also free for private use.

I use ClamAV myself. It solved our problem of the flood of constant e-mail viruses. It should work well for downloaded files as well. They seem to update their definitions constantly.

The GUI for F-Prot is called xfprot, and is at http://web.tiscali.it/sharp/xfprot/

I'm in the middle of installing f-prot for Linux, but have run into dependency problems. Needs textutils, PERL, and UnZip, which apparently were not included in Slackware, or maybe I just can't find them. And it also asked for /bin/sh.

I'm looking for the same application basically. I want to scan my windows partition from Linux. I installed XP, then connected and downloaded zone alarm, and somewhere in there I got infected. I was hoping there would be other solutions, but it doesn't sound like it so far in this thread.

i use kaspersky on qmail MTA. it works perfectly. kaspersky has a product for linux file servers as i remember. it is not free but it is the best solition both on windows and on linux as i tested myself. i also tried norton and f-prot and some others but they were not good enough. if u want a free antivirus, go with clam. it is GPL.
u can check antivirus section in that thread :
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45261

ps: i dont work for kaspersky

good luck
