Want to write to folder, but, don't want to give 777 rights

We have a CMS application that adds files into folders. we would require write rights on that folder for the purpose, but, want to avoid giving 777 rights as the site that the application is content managing is a public site.

Can somebody plz help soon.

Regards,
Suruchi

why not just create a new group for public people and exlude them from write access e.g.

chmod 775 somefolder

owner root 7, group 7, everyone else 5.

seems very simple. making the public people not in the group that has full permissions....

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
