Vsftpd + Ie 6 + Ssl

Hello all,

I just installed vsftpd with ssl support for a client only to find out that I cannot get Internet Explorer to utilize ftps. Am I right in assuming this? The server seems to be running fine since I can log in utilizing ftps utilizing a program like CuteFTP. My client is not going to like this solution if he cannot log into vsftpd with IE. The only thing that I can think that might be buggering up this wole installation is that I signed my own certificate. Does anyone else log into VSFTPD with IE over ftps? Am I doomed?

Just to add to the info available for trouble shooting - does it work under Firefox (or any another browser at all)?

No I couldn't get it to work under firefox either. I could only log in using ftps with a full FTP client like CuteFTP. Of course, cute FTP prompts me to accept my self-signed certificate, and I'm wondering if this is maybe the reason IE and FF will not let me utilize ftps, cause they choke on a cert signed by a non-trusted CA.

However, paying for a signed cert just to troubleshoot this seems extreme. So I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with the issue.

Just to add some more info, I am running ftps over the standard ftp ports--20+21--and have to require--as a matter of security--that ssl encryption is enforced for all logins.

The ftp server works fine with IE without enabling ssl support. But when I enable ssl, IE thorws me an error claiming "Non-anonymous sessions require encryption" and then craps out. So my assumption is that even when you type "ftps" in IE, it defauts over back over to ftp, and of course "clear text" logins are not even a consideration for my senario. One more note: I also get the same message when I ftp into my vsftpd server when using the CLI in windows.

I dont think, firefox or ie allow ftps connections as of now. you would need to install a ftps client on every machine.
