Virus spyware software with Slackware.

I have installed Slackware 10.1 on a Dell 600m, dual boot with Win XP. I have not seen much mentioned concerning virus protection with Linux. I am not saying there isn't a lot of info out there, but I have only been running Linux for 2 days and haven't seen it. Does the inherent security of Linux preclude the need for this? If not, is there open source virus protection that can be recommended for Slackware?

With XP, in addition to Norton Corporate Virus Protection, I use Spybot, and Adaware. Are there similar products for Linux, or even a need for them?

I have only logged in as root when I needed to, am I particularly vulnerable during these sessions?

Thanks in advance,
DCC

I'm installing BitDefender Anti-Virus now. You can obtain a free license if you're using it for your home machine. I'm not sure which is the best though.
