user password

An easy one now

I've received a Linux system (the type of knoppix) but don't know the password of a given user. How can I see that information?
I have root privileges

kind regards

you can't, you can change them, but you can't see the old password unless you perform some sort of password attack, or use an online md5 dictionary etc...
