updating redhat security patches APARs how?


to all gurus,
sorry im really a newbie here at linux, so pleas bear with me. i am supposed to update some patches to our linux box running in 2.6.9.11 kernel and i would like to ask guidance on the ff:
1) where can i downlaod this patches called APARs for linux?
2) what is the correct way to update?

Register the system with Red Hat Network and use up2date;
