Question unable to initalize the virus scanning engine data base files

Hard drive recently reformatted
first got msg. that "error on system registery" says to restart and it will repair it....same message continues over and over.
Now, rec. message about antivirus unable to intialize virus scanning engine data base.
also got on only once says..Speed disk the intel ultra ATA Storage driver is incompatable with Speed disk. Says to update the driver and gives me a url but I think I should wait and have the tech guy who reformatted etc. do this. However, I would like to understand these things and if I can repair these myself. Thanks to anyone who can advise me on all or any of these problems. Computer is Dell and I never had any problems until recently when someone else installed (tried to) the HP1210.
