sorry for posting this in the forum twice, I didn't see this security section until now, forgive for double posting in the forum.

I am new to Linux, and have used the Ubuntu Live cd to get a quick sneek peek.

I was curious, as to how secure I am using the live cd.
Does anyone know if its even possible for my puter to be comprimised when I am running the Linux OS from CD?

I would imagine not, since I dont think its even possible to contract a virus or spyware,trojan, keylogger, any of that sort without the OS being on HD, Is that right?

I am just wondering if I am being Naive, thinking that I am totally secure accessing my $$$ type accounts(paypal, e-gold etc.,etc.,) online, by the use of the Live CD?

It depends what you call compromise. A cracker can spy on your actions, use your machine as a zombie, read your datas.

For datas, he can not directly access your harddisk.

But he just has to mount the partitions, pretty easy unless they are encrypted or maybe disable in BIOS. Even if the liveCD has disable the features for reading/writing to partitons (ext2/ext3/fat/ntfs), a motivated cracker can still upload a driver for doing it.
