Thunderbird and Hiding Internal Natted IP Address

I have a client that has noticed that his e-mails that are being sent and recieved by his customer, are seeing his internal and public ip address. I know that the public ip address can be hidden by a proxy but how how can one hide the internal address from the MTA and in this case is Mozilla Thunderbird. I guess you would call this scrubbing the e-mail headers. thanks
