Stop to edit /proc/PRD/coredump_filter file

Hi Linux experts,

Question from newbie,
I am trying to stop edit/override of /proc/PRD/coredump_filter file content, as user can edit this with,
$ "echo "value" > /proc/PRD/coredump_filter

I am trying to make this zero by masking and want to remain zero until my process(PRD) finish its job.

I have tried to file locking but no luck as I can edit with echo command, and I also tried inotify API to check file is updated by user, then I can override users changes by masking but user can edit this file at any point of time.

Can anybody helps to give some pointers how I can stop edition by root user /proc/PRD/coredump_filter file until my all running process finish its job.

Thanks in advance,
Peeda

Hi,

Firstly you mean "/proc/PID/coredump_filter".

I did'nt understand what you want to achieve, can you please explain why you want to do this.

Thanks

The value of /proc/PID/coredump_filter should be editable.
This value determines what information is put in the core dump.
According to man 5 core it is by no means an output.
Therefore, I think it is best to reconsider what you want to do.

If you just want to stop your process creating core dumps then use setrlimit on RLIMIT_CORE to zero.
