ssh password cracking

Hi.

I've noticed that in the /vars/logs/messages file there is a considerable number of attempted ssh password cracking attempts for the root user.

This has started to get me worried....

Im using a fairly strong password, but is there anything else security wise that can be done to stop these attacks, or the risk of people breaking in?

I counted that there has been about 10 attacks from different ip addressed in the past 2wks or so.

Cheers.

If you look at one of the stickies at the top you'll notice that you aren't the only one getting these attacks.
You could setup ssh to listen on some other port than 22 and make sure root isn't allowed direct login in /etc/sshd_config or /etc/ssh/sshd_config.
