ssh and VNC

Hello

I found this site which tells me how to connect my laptop (vnc and SSH clients) with a remote system (VNC and SSH servers).

This link tells me how to start my ssh session on the laptop and forward local ports through ssh to a port on the server. However, it does not indicate what I need to do on the server to get an ssh port forwarded back to the VNC port.

I have RH 9 with SSH watching port 22 as the server. What do I need to do on the server to have it forward the VNC traffic to a VNC port (59xx)?

Thanks!

It tells you the ssh arguments " -L 5954:Charlie:5904 Bob"

I guess I misunderstood that the first time I read it.

If I understand it correctly...

lets say bob and charlie where actually the same machine called charlie.
I have sshd running on charile, so it is watching port 22 for ssh connections.
If I start the client ssh with:
-L 5954:Charlie:5904 localhost

would that create the desired route of (alice: 5954----(through ssh)----Charlie:5904)?

Thanks

I found this link and I have it working. Providing it here in case others have the same issue:

http://freesco.no-ip.org/VNC/

Thanks again!

I use putty.exe to set up the tunnel to the local forward. It makes it very easy. One thing I would like to point out is that ssh tunnels are only secure on one end. When you configure the local port, (the port to be forwarded) it is open to any one on the same network. For instance at work I often create an ssh tunnel to my home network. Anyone on the network at work gets forwarded down that tunnel if they try to attach to the port on my pc.

Just FYI
