SSH and SFTP with Ubuntu 6.06. Safe?
I have been asked to set up a file server that will be accessed remotely daily. I only plan to implement SSH and SFTP. There will be no other services installed other than SSH and SFTP. Is this safe to do? Are there any weaknesses to this? I will choose a good and long password and require the same for my users.

as long as you use an up-to-date copy then it is perfectly safe. a good mixed case, alphanumeric, special character password is a good thing too

Well, I wouldn't call anything "perfectly safe". That being said, SSH (which SFTP is a component of) is one of the most secure services out there (it was designed for security). Also, look into the "AllowGroups" and "PermitRootLogin" directives to help restrict logins to your server.
