have a brand new Fedora6 install with the accompanying sendmail 8.13.8-2

I'm getting spam relayed through the box:

as you can see they are faking the from username but since the RHS is the valid domain name the server is relaying it to a real user within the doamin.


I have uses both internal and external to the site so must allow for relaying on the 192.168.x.x side as well as the public IP address.
I would have expected that sendmail would have checked the LHS to make sure that the sender is a valid user on the server before relaying.

As far as I know, sendmail won't rely on the sender address being valid since it's easy to spoof. You could try using authentication for your users - there's a useful thread by SiegeX here at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=224543 that might help.

Have you tried postfix? (something I can help you with heh)

Have implemented Sendmail SMTP AUTH as suggested by Gilead and this has fixedthe problem, thankyou.
