Spam or not spam email?

Hi.

What are the best ways to check if an email is genuine or is spam?

I've used this site and it seems decent: http://mailtester.com

Are there other sites/in-built GNU/Linux methods to check if an email is genuine or spam?

The odd time, a genuine email goes into my spam box.

Thanks.

You probably know spamassassin. Other methods are Vipul's razor, DCC (Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse) and some Sourceforge thing which implements a Razor in python.

Last time I tried it, Vipul's Razor caught ~50% of unseen spam, with no false positives; DCC caught less than 5%, but if you are getting of bulk mail, that number would rise sharply. Spamassassin caught the rest, and a little more. You need to tune your rules and adjust scores to get the coverage you want. My brother's regular mails landed in the spam, but that was where I wanted them :-D.

Vipul's razor and DCC are being affected by spammers changing emails slightly to avoid checksum traps. Vipul's razor relies on reporting, DCC counts the number of times the same email has been checked.
