shadow passwords help?

ok, i just compiled and installed shadow passwords a few days ago, sence then iv been trying to make users, heres the little problems:
for some reason it likes to double the files making stuff like, /etc/group- /etc/shadow- /etc/passwd-

i guess thats normal, but the big problem with it is the fact that when i add users, the passwords arnt encoded in the /etc/shadow file, it just shows the password to the whole world

Unless your permissions are crazy, the ``whole world [ with root access ]''. When you say it shows the password, do you mean it shows it plain-text or you can see the encrypted result?

it was plain text, i solved to problem,
i was going thru my /bin and see what was there and deleting whatever i thought id never need, or dident want, i found a program "passwd", the adduser comand dident encode teh passords in /etc/mirror (i changed /etc/shadow to /etc/mirror), the passwd program changed my passwd and encoded it, so problem solved!
