Sending a virus to /mnt/windows via Linux

Is it possible to download an infected file in Linux, move the file into /mnt/windows and the infection still work?

I would guess that, assuming your Windows virus guard is up to date, it would be caught and killed. Depends on the virus - is it executable automatically or do you need to 'install' it under Windows?

Provided the file is downloaded unaltered (in a way Wintendo can handle), and provided with /mnt/windows you mean your Wintendo partition, yes.

Isn't it dependent upon if the virus has been designed to affect Windows?

Sure, that's what I meant saying "in a way Wintendo can handle".

"Wintendo":...... and what does that mean??? windows + nintendo = not appreciated

back to the topic: if it is an exe file that you need to actually run, then if you move it into your windows partition, it will only be infected (and detected) if you run the file

if it is one of those that just leeches into programs scanning for vulnerabilities, then it can infect immediately booting windows

one thing i've always wanted to try is to run an exe virus in wine, see what happens (lol, the virus has a call unhandled in wine and sends it into debug mode.... just seems funny to me)
