Hello,

What applications do you want to 'sandbox'?

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

It all depends on what application you want to 'sandbox'. For some a simple chroot environment will be sufficient. MySQL can be sandboxed using MySQL Sandbox, for Apache several suggestions are given on this site. You could also set up OpenVZ to have container based virtualization, sharing kernel and hardware.
Quote:
OpenVZ is container-based virtualization for Linux. OpenVZ creates multiple secure, isolated containers (otherwise known as VEs or VPSs) on a single physical server enabling better server utilization and ensuring that applications do not conflict. Each container performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server; a container can be rebooted independently and have root access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries and configuration files.
I personally recently migrated to ProxMox which provides what I need/want to keep our developers happy while I stay relaxed and in control.

Kind regards,

Eric
