samba share visible not accessible
My samba shares in fedora 5 are visible across the LAN from WinXP systems but when i try to access them, i get this message "you may not have permissions to access the folders, contact administrator". The read and execute permissions are enabled for the folders.
Though I didn't touch smb.conf file, I tried everything from GUIs. Also can u plz help me with editing the smb.conf file

Post contents of /etc/samba/smb.conf file
Have you setup users on the lanux machine with samba passwords?
What gui tool are you using? So many of them exist. May be familiar with the one you have.

Windows tries to authenticate itself as 'Guest' if not on a domain.
Try the following as root:
smbpasswd -a snoopy
mypassword
mypassword
Then add the following to /etc/samba/smb.conf
[docs]
path = /usr/share/doc
writable = false
users = snoopy
From the windows machine:
net use * \\sambaserver\docs /user:snoopy mypassword
