Samba as File Server on FC4

Hi Guys,
Can somebody advice me ? I have thoughts to make my Linux, FC4, Server to use it as a file server with Samba 3.0 on it. This server has to be exposed for the external world over a public IP. Do you think it is safe in this way to use linux as a Server.

Note: I may create individual share for each user on the FC server.

Exposing fileshares like that to the internet is a bad idea. Samba (SMB/CIFS) wasn't designed to be a hardened protocol and is vulnerable to a number of different types of attacks. Something like sFTP or Samba-through-SSH would be more secure. You could even allow SMB if it was accessible over a VPN connection, that way users need to authenticate to the VPN first before they can even access the fileshares.
