root password neccessary for reboot?

Hello folks,

I would like to know what this means:

when I want to restart my system (SuSe Linux 10.0 - recently installed) it appears a window where I should insert my root password. It was not this way before I reinstalled the system.

This window appears after KDE has shut down. If I abort this I come to the logon window. It is not possible anymore to shut the system down without being root.

Why is the root authorization necessary for yust rebooting? Can I adjust this somewhere or have I been hacked?

Thank you for thinking about it.

Regards
Manuel

Thread: root password neccessary for reboot?

I don't have your system but I did notice this post from an old problem:

"From the Kde menu, Control center - system administration - login manager. click on administrator button and enter the root user password. Click on the Shutdown tab on the right. In the Allow Shutdown box, it probably says 'root only'. click on the down-pointing arrow on the right, and select 'everybody'. click apply to save the change, then ok to exit.

That should fix it."
