What file would you edit then to get a uk keyboard layout as the default and a 1280 x 1024 default resolution? Is that trivial too for you?

Which files you have to edit depends on several factors, for example the init system in use (for the keyboard layout), which resolution you want to change (CLI or GUI), ... .

Generally if you can change some things with a command at boot, you can also change it by making those changes permanent in a file edit.

Can you change those settings when booting to this distro? Is it a menu choice?

I am a rather old grump guy. I don't do stuff for people, I prefer to offer hints so that you young whipper snappers do it yourself and learn.

Yes, I can modify the the distro. On a different post the OP noted that the squashfs version was newer. I had to use an older puppy distro to make the edits more easy. I use a virtual machine for all this. Boot to puppy and have a spare virtual hard drive to use for working. Mount a renamed glob file from LPS so that puppy will automagically mount it. Copy the files off to working directory. Edit what I want. Then squash it back and put it back on the iso image to use.

The difficulty tends to depend on your hardware.

If you want to call editing configuration files or installing new drivers reverse-engineering you can, but I still won't (I wouldn't necessarily call it trivial either).

I don't think Ulysses_ is worried about making friends.
