Remote X security question
Hey all, I finally took the plunge into linux again, I'm a newbie so please enlighten me if I am off track.
I have setup Redhat 8 server, and want to run it as my web/database server for a few small web sites I own. I have to say, RH8 was pretty slick install compared to previous years I tried. Anyway, I just want to clarify my speculation on running VNC.
I have read from many posts that it is not secure....but running with SSH is ok. What are recommendations on this? I absolutely need to be able to access the server from remote...via telnet or windows session. Preferrably xwindows remote session via vnc viewer. I have heard this not a good idea to have running for security reasons, is that true if I'm using SSH? Also, I was thinking I can just login to my router remotely, shutoff the ports used by VNC until I need them. Any suggestions appreciated, I'm assuming I will have to install VNC server as I did not see this as an option on the initial install.
Thanks,
-Jeremy
