rc.firewall vs iptables

I have setup my IPTABLES manually (quite a lot of work).
I am now busy setting up a VPN (CIPE) and need to add some items to the IPTABLES list.
I would like to know, if I add these items to the fc.firewall file, will it override all my IPTABLES?
More Important, can both be used at the same time?
Thanks.

Unless there has been an update that I am not aware of, rc.firewall is ipchains-based, which leads to an either/or situation. You would be better off just making modifications to your current iptables config to accomodate the CIPE necessities rather than converting everything.
