Unhappy Process or program to regain root control from chroot() hack?

As a total newbie I tried to install slackware 9.0 in a dual boot config with XP pro. The XP os was already in place but after my misbegotten attempts at the slack install I found that I could not boot either. Finally, with safe mode plus networking I managed to boot XP with none of the slack os showing up at all. I discovered that I could not use my DVDburner or CD burner, my pc had been transformed into a nt server (sortof) and my sys idle process was usually about 90% cpu usage. I booted knoppix several times but cannot access root file/dir or any administrative, configurative files and even after totally repartitioning and reformatting my harddrive I still have the same problem. I don't know whats up but some terms that I am wondering about include: chroot(), vfs, pseudo mount, meta/super users, telephony, AGP bridge, remote console/user, Xfree86, X11, and devbs. I am so completely ignorant of how to innitiate programs and create and mount directories and I was sure that deleteing, repartioning, and reformatting my hard drive, as well as resetting my cmos on my mother board would solve this problem but it has not! A process or program that I could use to regain control of my PC would be of immense help and I would be eternally grateful to whomever might help me with this abyssimal embroligio. Thank you very very much
