problem with firewall in red hat 7.3
i have recently setup a red hat linux server to act as a file server and gateway for my home network.
the problem is that when i go to change any firewall settings, they change straight back. i used the setup command from the prompt and if i changed any settings from anything but default, applied the settings, check back and they are back to default again. i was told that this is a bug in this version of red hat, but is there an update or patch i can get to fix the problem? |
I don't know, except for the fact this question has popped up before. I'm confident if you would search the forums one or more answers/workarounds will pop up. If it doesn't, promote your question by editing it :-]

no sure if this helps but....
i find the best way to setup a gateway/server for a small netwrok is to merely use a iptables script that is called once ur internet connection is alive. for example, i have a script called firewall located in /etc/init.d which is started by a line in my /etc/ppp/ip-up file. the firewall script enables all the masq stuff and allows various services. The script i use is just a generic one that i have modified to suit my little 'ol network.. you can find these scripts using google "iptables firewall script" Ed. |
Have a look at this GUI interface... http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/
