pppoe for normal user

Hi everyone. I have a debian system and use pppoe, to connect to the internet. My problem is, that just the root has the permission to connect, and I would sleep better if the normal user could that either. It would be much more secure I think. Would be nice if someone could help me

in gnome there is a tool called neat-control.
should work.

Heh i do not have Xfree on this Computer.
