ppp0 not ready Firestarter

Hello All

I'm trying to install (on Debian Sarge) Firestarter. However, when I run the Firestarter Wizard, it displays message 'ppp0 not ready'

This is my setup:

eth0 - external connection through pppoe (rp-pppoe)
eth1 - internal network

I select ppp0 as my interface to outside world.

My pppoe connection to the internet works perfectly (through eth0)

Any ideas? I'm a bit stuck on this one, and Google searching has revealed nothing

Regards

I'll register a bug on the firestarter projects web-site.

I've just installed Guarddog, and it works a treat

Glad to know your firewall GUI is working now; just to add:

You're using broadband and it seems like you were trying to point Firestarter to ppp0?
maybe you did a typo on your post, if not, you needed to point firestarter to pppoE or eth0, not ppp0 which is used for 'regular' modem dialup

Regards

Sorry about that!! Typo. I had to jump onto another computer to post this plea for help, due to lack of firewall!!

I have also tried eth0, brings same result 'eth0 not ready'

Thanks & Regards

I'm using (newly installed) Suse 9.2 and getting "device ath0 is not ready" when I try to start the firewall from within FireStarter.

ath0 should be my wireless card, since that's where firestarter is reporting all the traffic.

Is there a way I can stop the wireless device, start the firewall, then start up my wireless again?

Try command

ifconfig ath0 down

this will bring device down

ifconfig ath0 up

should bring device back up

You need to do this as root. If ifconfig is not in your path, use whereis ifconfig to locate it.

I gave up with firestarter in the end. I have ended up using a combination of my own iptables script, and guidedog to enable networks connected to my linux gateway to access the internet.

Hope this helps
Regards
