PortSentry Question
 

Hi all,

[ Quick Question ] I have recently installed PortSentry, and was wondering will it interfere with my firewall script which I have installed in my rc.local file.

IIRC it maintained its own list of IP's to block, and also a log of port scans etc.

When i installed it on slackware, i did put the command to start it in rc.local, but i had written my fw script in a new file rc.iptables, and was calling that from rc.M. Evenso, it should be ok to start PS from the same file as your iptables stuff.

To recap... No, it is unlikely that it will interfere with your firewall script.

Thanks jason.. What is rc.M, is that slackware specific ( excuse my newbieness )

/etc/rc.d/rc.M

That is the Multiuser startup script, it contains a lot of commands to be started when you boot into multiuser mode(default).

It is a slackware specific file AFAIK.

it is a slackware thing cause for redhat it would be /etc/rc.d/rc.local
it all depends on the distro

I am quite interested in Slackware. I installed it once [ Phew!] lets say i learned a thing or 9 when I was installing it, after the install I had to manually edit the XFree86 file [WoW!] that was the first time I had ever seen that file, never mind editing it [ ToTal Newbie ] but hey it worked. Although I think I was using Gnome-0.-1, I could have hung a wet duffal coat with half bricks in the pocket off of some of the desktop icons.......Also darkseed2g3,excellent Quotes:

I actually got that error , after a fresh install of Windows 95
