It shouldn't be a problem per: NetBIOS

what is causing the hits

what do you think is causing the hits anyway....even it is netbois..??

Are these hits coming from the internet or are you part of a larger (say college campus) network? I know when I was at college I was getting hits on that port often, probably some legitimate and some not, but I didn't have any side effects when blocking it.

i am a part of a large windows network

i am a part of a large windows network....and i am not directly connected to the internet...but through a very secure proxy and a firewall called checkpoint....

Still what is the system of netbios....?? once i did block the port 137 then i couldnt browse the internet at all...it caused a lot of problems....
