permission on user directories changing
I changed the permission of the home directories (/home/username) of several users (all members of the same group) to be 750. Then verified the permissions and also able to enter the directories.
After some time the permissions revert back to the original 700. This occurs on Mandriva 2006.0.

This machine has been up for weeks. I will try to catch the time when this happens. This may be a 'security' related cron job (part of Mandriva security level) that is doing this.

if it does it WHILE its up then i think you should indeed check the configuration (or maybe some of the manuals) of the mandriva security system
a google search gave me this http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/Mandrak...l/draksec.html and wat i see of it is that the "high" security level has some automatic checks on your system, this could include the permissions. try to set it to normal or even poor for a while to see if it does do that

That was the ticket. After changing the setting in draksec, the permissions didn't change. Thanks for the help Youri!
