password encryption
When i useradd with the password option, it just stores the password in plain text in /etc/shadow not encrypted like i thought it would, the result of this is the oassword cannot be used to login via ssh / ftp.
Am i missing something? Thanks Lanmate |
What distro are you using? The Slack boxes I've run have all been fine (ie encrypted and able to SSH). Does password shadowing affect FTP?

Im using RedHat 9, yes the passwod shadowing affects SSH, and FTP, the only account i can use is root, which was setup when the distro was installed, this is insecure i know which is why i would like to find the problem. Anything else you need, let me know.
