orphaned symbolic links

Hello

I can see that through my vulnerable joomla installation (old version) attacker is creating orphaned symbolic links.

For example there is a symoblic link called "iso4217.php" was created and it is pointed to a file that does not exist.

=========

# ls -l iso4217.php
lrwxrwxrwx 1 user user 57 Nov 22 21:01 iso4217.php -> /home/user/public_html/hostbills/includes/iso4217.php

root@main [/home/user/public_html/includes]# cat iso4217.php
cat: iso4217.php: No such file or directory

root@main [/home/user/public_html/includes]# ls -l /home/user/public_html/hostbills/includes/iso4217.php

/bin/ls: /home/user/public_html/hostbills/includes/iso4217.php: No such file or directory

================

I am not sure what the use of creating such orphaned symbolic links. Does the attacker is getting any benefit by creating such links?

Please let me know
