I have an open port I need to close ( 113 ) and just can't seem to get it done. I have read several other posts here and tried them all without success.
I'm running Mandrake 7.2 Here is what I have done so far... !. Modified the INETD.conf file, I tried to comment out anythiing having to do with IDENT. 2. Modified the etc/services file and tried to comment out 113. Did I do it correctly? Is there something I missed? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! |
ident doesn't run out of inetd anymore. You need to shut down ident. I am not too familiar with Mandrake, but '/etc/rc.d/init.d/ident stop' should do it. You will also want to take ident out of your startup scripts.

I'm afraid that it did not work. The only thing in that directory that is similar is identd or inet.
I would take it out of the startup scripts but I don't know where they are located! Total Newbie... If you can tell me where the startup scripts are usually located or what they are named I should be able to find it and modify it. Thanks again! |
The startup scripts are stored in /etc/rc.d. identd is the one you are looking for.
