no local images in browsers

I am running Suse 9.3 and have Mozilla, Firefox, Konquerer and Epiphany webbrowsers installed. I can view images in all of them and I can even view html on my own hard drive with the images showing correctly.
When I visit a site that calls an image from the local hard drive I have problems.
I have a php/mysql site for uploading pictures. The second page shows the images they uploaded but gets them from the users computer. The code is very simple:
Code:
<img src="file:///home/path/image.jpg">
I am allowing images to be viewed including images from other sites.
What types of security settings should I be changing?

In Mozilla Firefox, I think the setting is security.checkloaduri in about:config.
