Angry newbie - with elementary smotthwall issues ... wont work!

ALERT!

Hey cha'll

Im a newbie to Smoothwall and still pretty wet behind the ears when it come to linux as a whole. However my dilema is when im trying to use Smoothwall Linux. I install from iso no sweat - i do the entire install (including setup passwords and the like) , ok cool bananas!

I hit a wombat when i get the the "[computer name]: login" screen ... i can enter as "root" and "setup" - no problemo - i cannot however log in as "admin" the user supposedly able to edit the firewall from a web browser.

Is that supposed to happen?

If so how do i get to the GUI interface as i belive that is the only way we can access and manipulate the Firewall unless i want to do hours of homework in IPCHAINS .. b0o0o

i am running a pretty crap house Video card - however it was good enough to run win98 on it so i doubt that video ineptitude is the case, i have more then enough ram (128) and 1.7 G HDD JUST TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS - it still wont let me into a GUI ...

How do i get into the GUI? i tried changing runlevels to 5 .. it said "changing to init 5" and thats the extend of its impact ... i verify by typing "runlevel" command.

i get NO errors besides one that refers to the lookback smoothwall does upon completion to its mothership somewhere on the internet - am i awaiting a verification before i can access the gui?

i am quite lost - and all ur help would ... umm ... help
thank you in advance

help another micro-vert liek myself!

get the new IPCop instead of Smoothwall is my recommendation then you can use iptables instead.

or login as root and set admin's password
