newbie ipchains setup HELP
ipchains issues.
ok this l00nix thing is really making me angry. i am a new linux user, runnin slack 7.1... and i really do want to love it, i truly do. but the config for every damn thing is so hard. before i get into any really hard configs... like getting my x runnin smooth and downloading things i wanna setup ipchains. wtf is a ipchain anyway? (i know what it is don't tell me) i have it set to where my ipchain rulesset file is pulled and used in a script that exe as my lovely liloboot thing runs. but the rulesset my friend made for me is bunk... it will not work. i know it's not that hard to write ruleset, so i wanna do it myself. thing is i am a REALLY NEW newbie :newbie: ... and i have no idea what i am doing. another thing is, that even using the godly gooooogle i cannot find any GOOD tutorials on ipchains. all the tutorials i find are ment for ppl who already know ipchains, damn all u l00nix users know too much. u and ur man pages... anyway. if anyone knows some GOOD links meant for newbies on the basic setup and config of ipchains please shair them with me. thanks, skittles |

hmm. what i am really trying to do is setup ipchains...
thanks though. |
with kernel 2.4 ipchains has been replaced by iptables. it should make configuration easier (now that isnt hard, is it).
check out this page if you're interested in the basics: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel...es_basics.html if you only want to get the stupid thing to work, here's the howto: http://www.e-infomax.com/ipmasq/howt...tml/index.html if you do want to use ipchains (which i do not recommend, due to possible incompatibilities in the future), here's a good howto (just go by the steps): http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO.html ... and another tip from a linux newbie (what i still consider myself to be): patience! first copy the whole script off the howto page and get that to work, then start adding custom filters.
