New user suddenly appeared....
Hi.
Has anyone ever experienced that a new user suddenly appears in the login box? Is there anyway of finding out if I had an unwanted intruder on my computer? Is it possible that a newly installed program made a new user?
Thanks
-Henriette

There are some programs that can create new users at install. If you have any recently installed programs, post them...

Could you also post the username as well as info from /etc/passwd regarding the new user. Don't post the encrypted password if it's kept there.

Re
#nalg0rath: I have a lot of newly installed programs since I just installed Linux 2 days ago. Among them are Openoffice, Guarddog, Gaim, Firefox and some programs for work.
#Capt_Caveman: Hmm, I deleted the user as soon as I discovered it. The file at this stage doesn't look like it contains anything suspicious

You don't happen to remember what the username and user ID number was?

Re:
Not really. It was a 3 letter combination starting with the letter C - but that's it.
