Need unprotected stack for assignment
 

I have an academic assignment in which I need to perform a buffer overflow, and I need to find either:
A.) A distro that doesn't have a protected stack or
B.) A way to disable protected stack in a modern distro

Obviously it will be my own install so I will have root privileges. I just don't really know what to look for as I know very little about protected stacks in linux.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Considering that your profile says Debian, you might wanna start-off by reading this article. As for an unprotected distro, just find one compiled with an old GCC version such as 2.95 or 3.2 and you can be almost certain it won't have SSP. IIRC, this would be something around the Slackware 9.1 era, so maybe try with that one. That said, I'm closing this thread because there is no way to help you perform buffer overflows without breaking the LQ Rules.
