moving user accounts

Hi!

I am going to replace an old server with a new one and I would like to keep all user accounts (with passwords). My idea was to copy the user home directories, /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow but it seems like the old (old slackware) and the new (gentoo 1.4) servers are using different formats of the /etc/shadow file.

Example:

arrow:$1$/D.UwXiP$ToeMTycHvbwGn7hLQD3TB/:11758:0:99999:7::: //old
arrow:$1$/edOJA.4F$mODbGKHjQ.U5kJUaQ1mkE0:12381:0:99999:7::: //new

The passwords are of different length.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks
//Gurra

Check to make sure they are running the same version of the shadow package.
Either upgrade one, or downgrade the other, then upgrade it again.
