MDCrack cracks key with pass but not pass with key?...

Hey, like the title says Im having a really strange problem..
I use this site:
and generate a MD5 (HMAC) with lets say text as "aaa" and Key as "bbb" then I use MDCrack with --nonce bbb (thehash) and it will always fail.. BUT when I use --nonce aaa (thehash) it cracks it and gives me "bbb" as the result! therefore when I tell it the password it gives me the key but when I give it the key it fails.. this is really odd behaviour unless Im doing something wrong here.. anyone have any ideas?

the two keys are signed differently...the idea behind a pass key relationship is that there is a public key which can be decrypted and a private key which is very hard to decrypt...anyone can use the public key to decrypt a message but you cannot create a message with the private key...
