maximum password age in a user account

i'm using fedora core 3 & RHEL AS 4.0. once i create a useraccount i want to set Maximum number of days a password may be used. i have found a file call /etc/login.defs, in that file i get something call PASS_MAX_DAYS 99999, but although i change it does not seems to be working any solutions ??? what i want to basically do is i want to limit the maximum password age to 10 days, and in the next day when the user logs in he must be automatically asked to change his own password. HELP PLS!!!

in fc3 you can do it through the GUI. just go menu -> system settings -> users and groups. then choose the account you want to modify and press the properties button. on the second tab, you can enter if you wnt passwords to epire and how many days they last.
